Holiday Break!

With the holiday season fast approaching, many of us are thinking of making time for family, friends, holiday celebrations and oH - FINALS! Yikes- where does the time go? It seems like we were just kickin' off this semester!

But before you know it the semester will come to a close and you'll be one semester closer to your graduation goals! It can be a very stressful time of year and everyone deals with that stress in different ways.

I thought it would be interesting if we shared with each other about ways you deal with the stress this time of year. Also share what your most favorite holiday event is? ....tree decorating, musical events, family diners?

12th Annual Conference Success!

I apologize for not posting to this blog for so long. I hope to get things back on track soon!

We just completed our 12th Annual National Conference here at Saint Martin's University and by most accounts it was a success.

I will be following up this post with updates on ANTSHE and all the great things we have going on this year!

This is an open blog and I encourage everyone to share Nontrad related issues, concerns, or celebrations for everyone to read!

2008 ANTSHE Board of Directors to name Jan Berney of Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington recipient of the 2008 National Treasurers Award!

The Board of Directors presented the National Treasurers Award to Jan Berney of Saint Martin’s University, Lacey Washington. Berney is the Director of the Counseling services at the University.

ANTSHE “National Treasure Award” is given by nomination to professors or academic professionals for their dedication and support of non-traditional students on their campus.
This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond in their respective positions, and who exemplify those who support (through action) non-traditional students throughout the year.

The Washington ANTSHE Delegation will present the award along with the Student Body President of Saint Martin’s University Whitney Kippes, ANTSHE Student Representative Jamie Cornett, ANTSHE Communication officer Martin Moore and ANTSHE President Jeffrey Bunnell in front of the Saint Martin’s University Administration. “On behalf of the nomination committee, members of ANTSHE, and the Board of Directors, we are pleased and are excited to present the award to Jan Berney. Jan has worked tirelessly in supporting the Non-traditional students for the last couple of years,” said President Jeffrey Bunnell.

10th Annual ANTSHE Conference

10TH ANNUAL ANTSHE CONFERENCE March 23- 25, 2007.

The 10th Annual National Conference of the Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education is quickly approaching. The conference will be held March 23 – 25, 2007 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. Sessions will be one hour each, running from approximately 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday, March 24th.

The National Conference of the Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education (ANTSHE) is a conference designed for non-traditional students as well as the professionals that work with non-traditional students. This year, in addition to targeting these two groups, we will be expanding our offerings to provide sessions for the spouses/partners of non-traditional students.

The Theme for the conference is Leaders in Transition. We chose this theme because we recognize the fact that non-traditional students are already leaders, and are in the process of a transition from the workforce to college, and back again. The goal of the conference is to find ways to make these transitions easier. We also seek to maximize our leadership abilities, both in and out of the university setting, and use these abilities to build successful programs. Of course, we won’t leave the professionals out! We will also work to help professionals learn to better provide support and advocacy for non-traditional students on their campuses and to successfully meet the challenges of their positions.

The conference will be divided into four tracks, which are Student, Professional, Collaborative (applicable to both students and Professional), and Spouse/Partner. Examples of a few of the sessions include Leadership and Marketing Management for Non-Traditional Student, Career Transition; The Power of Networking, Distance Learning for the Non-Traditional Student, Taking your Student Organization to the Next Level. Don’t forget that the session proposals for the 2007 ANTSHE conference are due September 30^th! We still need a lot of sessions, so please encourage professionals and students from your institution to submit a proposal. Details below…

Call for Proposals

Be creative, and don’t hesitate to contact us for more suggestions.

Proposals are due by September 30, 2006. The acceptance committee will review all proposals and contact you for more information. Applicants will be notified of their proposal acceptance by December 1, 2006.
